Linda Morrison

Welcome to the official web site of Montreal singer-songwriter Linda Morrison.

About Linda Morrison:

"One of Canada's best and most multi-faceted singer-songwriters."

Those are the words one journalist used to describe Montreal folk performer Linda Morrison. That's partly because she draws on influences as diverse as jazz, country and 20th-century classical music to flavour her distinctive original songs. But it's also because Morrison - described as "angel-voiced" by the Montreal Gazette - is also an arranger, choir director and teacher whose songs have been heard on Sesame Street and recorded by such artists as Penny Lang and Karen Young as well as children's musicians Fred Penner and Sharon, Lois and Bram.

In fact, there isn't much in the world of folk music that Morrison hasn't done since she was galvanized by the discovery of a trove of Ella Fitzgerald records in her parents' basement when she was five. Over the last couple of decades, Morrison has performed across Canada and in the U.S. at folk festivals, universities, clubs and concert halls and has been featured on such national CBC radio shows as Morningside.

For 12 years, Morrison was director and musical arranger with Montreal's Yellow Door Tabernacle Choir, and her choral arrangements are used in choirs across Canada and the U.S.  She now teaches choral ensemble at the National Theatre School of Canada and gives a songwriting workshop for the Quebec Writers' Federation.  Morrison performs in a trio with musical cohorts Andrew Cowan (guitar) and Bill Gossage (bass). Her critically acclaimed album of original songs,Line by Line, has just been released on CD.

About Line by Line:

Line by Line has been re-released on CD - 12 years after it first hit record stores. Line by Line got rave reviews when it was first released in 1991. Here's part of what the Montreal Gazette said then:

"Linda Morrison's debut album, Line by Line, proves what her Montreal fans
have been saying for years: that she's one of the country's finest
singer-songwriters.... Line by Line is a compelling argument for the
theory that all music is related under the skin, especially if the skin in
question adorns a ... veteran folkie from Dorval."
